Olivelli, Mary: Online Gallery
"Like all other people who are ruled by the sea, I have always collected shells. But unlike most people who collect shells, I not only look for the perfectly shaped shells, I look for the broken ones as well, ones that have been marked by nature. They tell a story. To travel into a broken shell is to travel into the heart of nature and feel the ravages of time. The shadows become warm and delicate and full of color. Cradled in the shells I have painted are the mysteries of nature."

Olivelli, Mary: Shells
"Ms. Olivelli's shells have an erotic dimension, rather like O'Keeffe's flowers that push against their pictorial boundries while drawing the viewer toward a sensual interior space."
