This excellent site is effectively a clearing house to over 3000 sites covering every aspect of French art, culture, language and literature. Over 300 of these links are to teaching sites. Resource references cover the classical and contemporary, include a useful section on French media and provide annotated literature texts with commentaries and suggestions. There is even a feature on humour in French literature. If you can't find what you want by starting here you almost certainly don't need it.

Introduction: Lingunet
This site forms part of the developing Virtual Teachers Centre within the Government's National Grid for Learning. It is maintained by the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research (CILT) and provides first class resources for teachers in both Primary and Secondary schools. It has a bank of language-related websites and gives teachers excellent advice on appropriate materials and staff development opportunities. This is a must for any language teacher in the UK. It also provides a nationwide forum for Language teachers where they can exchange ideas and resources. Materials available on the site are subject to copywright.

These sites are accessed easily for any number of languages. These are identifiable by URLs such as those above or can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate country link on the Yahoo UK page. These sites are appropriate for high level language users as they provide opportunities for Web Searches in the target language. This requires a good standard of reading and comprehension plus an understanding of common usage and idiom. The pages are set out identically to the English language version.

This is a wonderfully professional example of a school web site, offering far more than simply examples of pupil's work and policy documentation. This site provides a comprehensive basic course in French with text explanation and audio links. It is appropriate for anyone who wishes to improve their oral skills in the chosen language and requires multi-media facilities on stand-alone PCs or networks. It can also be used by Mac users. Systems will require an appropriate media-player to gain the full benefit of this site. Lesson 1 on Pronunciation gives full advice on pronunciation of single vowels.
