Introduction: Maths Year 2000
This is the heavily promoted, official DfEE site for UK Maths Year 2000. Admirably, it aims to "create a positive, can-do culture towards maths", and challenge the rather odd pride many of us take in being 'hopeless at maths'. The site includes games, puzzles, a dictionary of mathematical terms and GCSE tests that can be taken on or off line. However, there is too little on too many pages, and it contains too many slow-loading graphics that serve no real purpose. Better to save the graphics to illustrate e.g. concepts and equations.

Introduction: Maths Help
Another amateur site aimed more at GCSE (and equivalents and above) students than at teachers. It contains a maths chat room and comprehensive knowledge bank with questions and answers to common maths problems. Most of these are student generated and are initially answered individually by e-mail with hints and suggestions rather than solutions. If the British teachers working voluntarily think the question will occur frequently, the full solution is added to the bank. It is also pleasing to visit a site which gives fairly full information about itself.
